Paul Troy
Lake in the Hills, IL
My name is Paul Troy and I've been in the technology industry as a wireless telecom engineer starting in 1993. In 2013, I decided I needed a fresh start and I began to transition into a new career as a school business official. Pretty large disconnect, right? Well, it is.
Several years ago, I decided to get involved in my community and my children's education: I was elected to serve on our local Board of Education. Little did I know at that time how fulfilling of an experience it would be, or that it would become a professional springboard for me.
I started that career change in 2013 by enrolling in a two year program at Northern Illinois University, which works in conjunction with the Illinois Association of School Business Officials to prepare the next generation of school business managers. The certification "route" consists of nine classes and a multi-semester internship at a school district. My internship began in August 2014, and I anticipate graduating in June 2015. In September 2014, I passed my Illinois certification exam for Chief School Business Official, and am awaiting the official results so I can apply for state licensure.
This is a big hurdle on my professional transformational journey, and certainly one of many. I also serve my community as an elected member of the CUSD 158 Board of Education, and my second term is set to end in 2017.
In my spare time (and there's not much presently), I love spending time with my family. I enjoy hockey, golf, cooking and watercolor art as well.
