Paula Ribeiro

Translator, Interpreter, and Project Manager in Porto, Portugal

I started translating in 1997 and since then I knew this was the career I wanted to pursue! Since then, I graduated in 2006 with a Master’s Degree in Specialized Translation and Interpretation, with English and French as my working languages. Later I took Spanish as my third language, and in 2010 I decided to undertake translation and interpretation freelance work as my main occupation, maintaining always my education and training as a key part of my career and personal development. For this I decided to create my own “brand” – Crossingwords!

Crossingwords is me! The name is because I consider the act of translation as a transfer of the meaning of a text, from one language to another, taking care of its relevant meaning in the source text.

I work with agencies, direct clients and some colleagues. The language combinations I work with are English, French and Spanish into European Portuguese (my native language), as I strongly believe that a translator should not translate into none but the mother tongue.

I mainly work with documents for the automobile industry, building and construction, IT, power electronics, robotics in the form of hardware, software and user manuals; Marketing documents and technical specifications are also part of my portfolio.

Ultimately I believe I do what I do best... I translate!
