Dr Paula Carroll PhD. BSc. (Hon), MSc., PGDip., PGCTHE, FHEA
My current employment title is Research and Impact Lead in children and young peoples' mental health. Previous employment has included over 17 years experience in secure mental health services undertaking an array of roles, the most latter of which was the position of Health Promotion Coordinator which was a more strategic role to improve the health outcomes for patients and staff members. I had a brief spell in marketing and digital sales in the private sector before moving into academia in 2015 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and PhD student in the Faculty of Health and Social Care, Edge Hill University.
During my three year employment at Edge Hill University, I was the joint module lead for the Masters module Leadership in Health and Social care. I also supporting students on both undergraduate and postgraduate leadership, research methods and dissertation programmes, and gained my teaching qualification enabling me to become a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
My PhD research is in the field of clinical education and is looking at the emotional communication skills of student nurses in classroom and on placement in inpatient mental health settings. Evidence suggests that if health care providers respond to patients' emotional cues and concerns when presented then the patient has better health outcomes and greater satisfaction.
