Paula Ferrada, MD

Currently residing and working in Virginia, Dr. Paula A. Ferrada serves as physician with the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Hospitals and Physicians. Originally from Colombia, Dr. Ferrada immigrated to the United States and pursued a career in medicine. She graduated magna cum laude with her Doctor of Medicine from Universidad Del Valle Medicine in 2001. An expert in trauma medicine, Dr. Paula Ferrado possesses certification in Fundaments of Laparoscopic Surgery, Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM), Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET), and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). She also functions as an American College of Surgeons Ultrasound Instructor and as an instructor of ATLS and ATOM. Completing a surgical internship with Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Dr. Paula A. Ferrada also finished a surgical residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. She served as Chief Resident at Beth Israel and participated in a fellowship with the University of Pittsburgh Department of Critical Care. Prior to her role with the Medical College of Virginia, she assisted at the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center as a fellow in acute care surgery. Serving as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Emergency General Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia, Dr. Paula Ferrada has been a medical instructor since 2004. Starting as a clinical instructor, she has worked with several prestigious institutions, including Harvard University’s Harvard Medical School, the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Recognized for her knowledge in surgical procedures, she received the honors of Excellence as a Resident Teacher Award and Outstanding Resident Teacher Award at Harvard. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Paula Ferrada serves as a Staff Surgeon with MCV Surgeons at John Randolph Medical Center. Dr. Paula Ferrada actively participates among the medical community and belongs to the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the American College of Surgeons, and the Association of Woman Surgeons. She volunteers and supports the efforts of Panamerican Trauma Society, a group that aims to promote communication and the sharing of information between medical and health care professionals in North, Central, and South America.
