Paul DeLeeuw

Retired Anesthesiologist in New Britain, CT

With his father's devotion to education and service, DeLeeuw strives to satisfy the needs of his community and to exemplify that commitment. When Paul DeLeeuw graduated from Cedars Medical Center in 1978, he began his medical career in the field of anesthesiology there. He then rose to the position of Chief of Anesthesia at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he remained until 2002. The next year, Dr. DeLeeuw accepted a position as the Director of Anesthesia Services at Riverwalk Surgery Center, where he oversaw nurse anesthetists and oversaw the operations of the anesthesia department. Dr. DeLeeuw was unable to continue working as an anesthesiologist due to a shoulder injury, and he decided to pursue a career as a bariatrician instead of continuing his medical training. Dr. DeLeeuw began working as a bariatrician for Bariatric Physicians Inc. in 2008, where he has remained since. A bariatric surgeon, he began working with Medi Weightloss Clinics in 2009 as a part-time job. He presently sees patients who wish to lose weight in a number of Florida locations, including Orlando, Boca Raton, and Sarasota, according to his website. Dr. Paul DeLeeuw married the eldest daughter of Willard Kempton, a well-known philosopher and linguist who was in charge of the Aid to France program following World War II. The wedding took place in 1991 in the Netherlands. We raised two children together: Joseph, who is now an ethicist and programmer in Brooklyn, New York, and Halley, who has suffered from a seizure disease since she was two years old. In addition to his full-time anesthesia practice, Dr. DeLeeuw committed countless hours to the nurturing, educating, and treating of Halley and her siblings. Halley is presently the Director of Business Intelligence for the State of Florida, a position she previously held.
