Otolaryngology is the study of ear, nose and throat conditions and this field of study is the oldest medical specialty in the United States, where nearly half of all office visits pertain to the ear, nose and throat (ENT). Otolaryngologists are often referred to as ENTs, ENT doctors or head and neck specialists. Physicians in this field commonly treat children with persistent ear, nose and throat conditions to include surgery, while adult patients tend to seek treatment for sinus infections, age-related hearing loss and cancers of these regions.
Dr. Paul Drago, an ENT physician based in South Carolina, finds the often challenging and intense surgeries associated with ear, nose and throat disorders to be a rewarding experience when successful.
“I work with a lot of children and it’s always rewarding when I’m able to help them hear again or make their life a little easier,” Drago said. “They are so innocent and when things like EMT disorders happen to them, it’s not their fault and it’s comforting knowing that I can help.”
Paul Drago, MD currently works with the Blackville Medical Center at the Southern Palmetto Hospital in South Carolina. He previously practiced as a physician at Central Carolina Ear, Nose, Throat & Audiological Center PA, and Genesis ENT & Plastic Surgery, PLLC. Dr. Paul Drago received his Doctor of Medicine in 1990 from Ohio State University before completing a postdoctoral internship in general surgery, a residency in otolaryngology and a fellowship in facial plastics and reconstructive surgery.
His motivation to help others and his passion to continually learn inspire both his professional and personal choices. Dr. Paul Drago actively participates in volunteer services in his local community. He currently serves as a Board Member of the Stewards of Christ Children’s Homeless Project and assists in feeding the homeless through the Charlotte Rescue Mission. He also volunteers his time at various soup kitchens and with the Mysteries of Christ where he advises and helps young adult men make their way in the world. In the near future, Paul Drago, MD hopes to adopt an orphan from China.
