Paul Hughes
Paul heads-up Crutes' insurance practice and deals with complex claims in specialist areas (psychiatric injuries, fatal accidents, stress and bullying). Paul has championed the use of mediation in personal injury claims and has taken part in over 50 mediations, as mediator and party. Almost all have been personal injury claims that have settled at or immediately after the mediation. Mediating stress claims is of particular interest to Paul.
Paul has also been, and continues to be, involved in a number of cases concerning the Protection from Harassment Act and the Majrowski case. He won the landmark case Conn v Sunderland CC which has received much press in the insurance world: in relation to bullying and harassment claims. Paul is the North East regional representative for The Forum of Insurance Lawyers special interest group in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). He is a member of the Law Society's ADR Committee.
