Dr. Paul S. Jones earned the Doctor of Music degree in choral conducting from Indiana University, from which he graduated with highest honors. He also holds a masters degree in piano performance, and a bachelor of music in piano performance and composition as well as an undergraduate degree in theology/Bible from Philadelphia Biblical University (now Cairn). Dr. Paul S. Jones wrote his doctoral dissertation on Johann Sebastian Bach’s theology, based on evidence from the composer’s Leipzig cantatas and other examples in his music.
Currently, Paul S. Jones serves as President of Paul Jones Music, Inc., a PA-based company that provides music and music resources in various forms for churches worldwide. He was Founder and Artistic Director of the Philadelphia Chamber Choir, a performing group of 22 to 24 voices that specialized in Renaissance and 20th century choral music.
Dr. Jones is an experienced university professor and orchestral and choral conductor, having taught at four universities for 27 years. He is currently Professor of Music and Head of the Department of Performing Arts at University of The Bahamas. His work at Temple University in Philadelphia included lecturing on Renaissance and Baroque choral literature, and teaching the masters conducting students as well as directing the Temple University Concert Choir. He has given masterclasses and served as a clinician and speaker at conferences all over North America.
Dr. Jones has served eight churches of varying denominations as organist and/or music director, including almost two decades at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, and has published numerous articles and books, primarily in the field of church music. His two books, “Singing and Making Music”, and “What Is Worship Music” were published by P&R. His collections "Come to the Waters: 25 Sacred Art Songs and Hymn Arrangements", "Sacred Music for Cello and Piano", and "The Lord Is My Shepherd: Sacred Music for Violin and Piano" are distributed by J. W. Pepper. He released a collection of hymns by Eric J. Alexander entitled "Hymns of Prayer." This collection was recorded on an album of the same name by the Philadelphia Chamber Choir. His hymn-tunes are found in numerous hymnals around the world including Britain, New Zealand, Japan, Canada and the U.S.A.
