Paul Waide

Co-founder of Amalfi Capital and its Chief Investment Officer. Amalfi Capital manages Amalfi Capital Fund I, a long/short equities fund. Amalfi also holds direct investments in several early stage businesses.

Prior to Amalfi Capital spent two years as a vice-president of Winnington Capital's Trophy Fund in Shanghai and Hong Kong. Set up mainland China private equity operations for Trophy Fund.

Completed investments in growth stage internet companies and in 2009 spent time managing some of the fund's investments in internet, media, and entertainment industries.

Co-founded Pacific Epoch in 2003. Pacific Epoch was a research firm that developed quantitative and qualitative research products for hedge funds investing in Chinese internet, media, and telecommunications companies. Created and sold research products to eight of the top 20 hedge funds worldwide by assets under management. Sold Pacific Epoch to JL McGregor & Company in 2006. JLM Pacific Epoch went on to raise a round of investment from Goldman Sachs and continues to offer comprehensive coverage of online games and Internet-related companies in China. (JLM Pacific Epoch is now part of Pacific Crest, 2011).

From 2001 through June 2003, worked in the regional strategy group at Alcatel Asia Pacific in Shanghai. Youngest member of Alcatel's Asia Pacific leadership team. Mainly did competitive intelligence on mobile hardware vendors in Asia. Prior to Alcatel worked for a technology strategy consultancy in Singapore advising multinationals and government entities on how to exploit internet technologies.

From 1997 through to November 2000, worked as a financial journalist in Jakarta – youngest accredited foreign correspondent – and Melbourne. Initiated coverage of technology, media, and telecommunications companies for what was then Bridge News (now Reuters). Also did stints as a reporter at Bloomberg News and internet.com.

Bachelor of Arts with majors in Economics and Asian Studies from the University of Melbourne.

Also an independent non-executive director of Parkside Asset Management, a China-focused value manager.
