Located in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, PAVE Academy Charter School strives to change statistics on poverty and low educational attainment in its local community. Education statistics in the Red Hook area reveal a 52 percent poverty rate among those who have not received a high school degree or its equivalent. In order to bring about change in the community, PAVE Academy Charter School places a strong emphasis on elementary literacy instruction. Each elementary classroom of 25 students receives evidenced-based instruction led by two teachers who are passionate about literacy education.
At PAVE Academy, a strong team of professional teachers and staff provides a core curriculum that includes individualized attention for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. PAVE anticipates accommodating 470 K-8 students in upcoming years. By focusing on building a strong foundation in reading and writing in the early years, the team helps students achieve academic success that leads to entry into competitive high schools and universities.
PAVE Academy extends education beyond the classroom into the after-school hours. While instruction ends at 3:30 p.m. daily, the school accommodates children until 5 p.m. in after-school programs. Included in these after-hours activities are performing arts, chess, and Lego robotics. Other activities include volleyball and scouting for both boys and girls.
