Employers who ask Gen-Y workers to forgo pay in exchange for on-the-job training, are narrowing the tax base; exacerbating the coming studen-debt-default crisis; depriving clerical and other administrative workers of gainful employment and, in most cases, violating federal and state wage and hour laws. We will soon be asking for-profit employers sign a pledge agreeing to offer no less than minimum wage to all their employers and asking colleges and universities to refuse "help wanted" requests for unpaid internships.
