Pedro José Borges
Urban Designer, Architect, and Photographer in New York
I am an architect and urban designer with expertise in design of the public realm; specifically integrative urban park design, streetscape & spatial design, transit-oriented design, pedestrian, bicycle & bus safe street design, community engagement and people-centered design.
I apply sustainable and environmental principles through design research & analysis, safety & engineering studies to urban design and city planning. In my seven years of work experience I have helped develop master plans and restore historical and landmarked sites and parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City. I have also helped to implement the Mayor of New York's Vision Zero Plan through applied Pedestrian Safe Action planning to make NYC streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists. I've conducted academic research in Scandinavia & Switzerland and worked as a project manager for high-profile design and consultant projects throughout the city of New York.
Originally born in San José, Costa Rica, I have lived in New York and traveled extensively in Latin America, Europe and Asia so I carry with me a high level of compassion, sensibility and responsibility to people-oriented and culturally responsive design. I also work as an independent consultant and I find great enjoyment collaborating with artists, architects, designers, urban planners and those with a passion for innovative design possibilities to enhance the public realm. I also work as a photographer engaging humanity as an observer.
I am fluent in English (native), Spanish (native) & Italian, and basic knowledge of French, Portuguese, & Danish.
Pura Vida!
