Penelope Vlassopoulou
Artist in Karistos, Greece
Multidisciplinary artist born in 1977 in Athens, Greece. Her current work "Metamorphosis" explores the poetic potential of urban elements and the city as a link to common human experience. The project began in her home city of Athens, Greece, and evolved in dialogue with various urban environments including Berlin, Germany, Belgrade, Serbia and Chicago, USA. In March 2015 "Metamorphosis" returned to Athens with the work "no water" that culminated in a seven hour intervention in the city center. The work, interpreting phrases and drawings carved by the detainees on the walls of the former underground Nazi detention facilities in Athens, traces a connection between Greece's historical past and the country's current predicament.
