Penny Fleming

Kansas

I teach 9th-12th grade English Literature and Composition at Waverly High School in Waverly, Kansas. I grew up in larger Emporia, Kansas but appreciated the values that small communities held dear. When it was time for me to attend high school, I traded a 6A school for a 3A school, going to Northern Heights High School, and never regretted the move. Although my opportunities for electives decreased, my opportunities to be a part of everything increased.

I recognize the values of a small town education and I fight to keep them alive amidst the growing decisions of state government to cut education, eventually forcing small schools to close down.

I hold a Bachelors Degree of Fine Arts in Communication and worked in the corporate field before deciding to work toward "changing the world" through education. I attained my Bachelor of Science in Education in 2006 and have taught at Waverly ever since. I am currently working on my Masters Degree in Instructional Technology from Ft. Hays State, and believe that technology is a vital necessity in today's classroom.

I am compelled to push the envelops of 'cookie cutter' education, and encourage my students to think BIG and do BIG things.

My interests include watching my 16 year old son race motocross, coaching volleyball for The Waverly Bulldogs, singing, writing, photography, poetry, and listening to music.

Follow me as I prove that although the struggle is real, those that think outside of the box will survive!
