Known as Persian blue, this color is named in reference to the color of Persian pottery and the color of the tiles used in and on mosques and palaces in Iran and across the Middle East. The Persian blue color corresponds to the mineral lapis lazuli, which is found in Persia (modern Iran) and Afghanistan [citation needed]. (The mineral lapis lazuli is also the name of the color azure.)
