Pete Pryor
Director, actor, teacher and writer Pete Pryor has won four Barrymore Awards: Outstanding Leading Actor in a Play (Richard III at The Lantern Theater Company), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Play (Road at The Wilma Theater) and Outstanding Director of a Musical (Cinderella at The People’s Light & Theatre Company), and special recognition award (for his receipt and participation in the Lunt-Fontanne Fellowship). The co-founder of 1812 Productions, he is the recipient of two fellowships from the Independence Foundation and a grant from the Philadelphia Theatre Initiative. He made his playwriting debut with Beautiful Boy, part of the New Development Series at 1812 Productions in 2008. He is the Artist-in-Residence at the Pathway School, an institution dedicated to helping students with special needs achieve success and independence.

BEAUTIFUL BOYThe first play by actor/director Pete Pryor, Beautiful Boy is an uplifting story of the care and love for one family's autistic child. At around 18 months of age, Pete’s son was diagnosed with ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorder. This impressionistic piece received an Independence Fellowship and follows a family on its journey from the fearful time of the diagnosis to the finding of an approach and a home program. Scenes of a father dealing with work, travel, and the myriad of therapeutic approaches are intercut with glimpses of his family’s life and a look at the community that helps his son. It is a piece full of life, humor, and deep love.
First produced by People's Light in 2012, and will be brought back for a special one-night engagement on April 6, 2015, to support the work of The Pathway School and People’s Light’s sensory friendly programming.
