Peter R. Orszag currently holds the position of CEO of Financial Advisory at Lazard Freres & Co LLC, where he oversees the firm's advisory services for businesses and governments worldwide. His prior roles at Lazard include Head of North American Mergers & Acquisitions and Global Co-Head of Healthcare.
Before his tenure at Lazard, which began in May 2016, Dr. Orszag was Vice Chairman of Corporate and Investment Banking and Chairman of the Financial Strategy and Solutions Group at Citigroup, Inc. He also held positions as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and as a Contributing Columnist at the New York Times.
From January 2009 to July 2010, Dr. Orszag was the Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Obama Administration, a role that included Cabinet-level responsibilities. He led the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) from January 2007 until December 2008, during which he expanded the agency’s emphasis on health care and climate change.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Orszag was the Joseph A. Pechman Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of Economic Studies at the Brookings Institution, where he also served as Director of The Hamilton Project, Director of the Retirement Security Project, and Co-Director of the Tax Policy Center. His government service includes positions as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy during the Clinton Administration, and as a staff economist and later Senior Advisor and Senior Economist at the President's Council of Economic Advisers. Additionally, Dr. Orszag founded an economics consulting firm, which he later sold.
Dr. Orszag graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in economics and earned a Ph.D. in economics from the London School of Economics as a Marshall Scholar. He has coauthored or coedited several books, including titles on homeland security, retirement security, and economic policy.
He serves on the Board of Directors of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, and New Visions for Public Schools. A member of the National Academy of Medicine, he has received an honorary doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Peter is married to CNN's Bianna Golodryga.
