Peter Buchman

Los Angeles, CA

An award-winning screenwriter from L.A., Peter Buchman has collaborated with several renowned directors during his career, including Steven Spielberg, Sydney Pollack, and Martin Scorsese. Buchman started his career as a playwright in Seattle and caught his first break when his screenplay about Alexander the Great was purchased for Martin Scorsese to direct. The movie was never made, but the success of his first screenplay encouraged Peter Buchman to pursue a career in L.A. Upon arriving in Southern California, he made a name for himself by writing a script about a man that salvaged World War II planes for DreamWorks. Stephen Spielberg, a cofounder of DreamWorks, was impressed by the work and quickly asked Buchman to write Jurassic Park III just three months prior to production.

After gleaning his initial insight into the industry, Peter Buchman adapted the dragon fantasy novel Eragon into a full-length film for 20th Century Fox. Buchman subsequently turned his attention to nonfiction material, writing the screenplay for Che: Parts One and Two. Working with director Steven Soderbergh and Oscar-winner Benicio del Toro, he performed firsthand research for the films in Cuba. Che earned widespread acclaim and garnered Peter Buchman a nomination for Best Screenplay at the Goya Awards and the Cinema Writers Circle Awards. He currently has a major sci-fi movie in pre-production and is finishing a script about Jack Garcia, a legendary FBI undercover agent.

Peter Buchman holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Creative Writing from Oberlin College in Ohio. A devoted husband and father, Buchman spends much of his free time with his family, hiking, camping, and enjoying the beautiful Southern California beaches. To stay active, he goes on long walks with his dog and exercises regularly.
