Peter Francis, MD, PhD, is the Founder and President of the biotech consulting firm Pacific Ophthalmology Consulting, LLC. Following a distinguished career as a clinician and researcher, Dr. Francis founded his firm to provide consultation on product, device, and drug development, in addition to providing advice on pre-clinical study design for biotech, pharmaceutical, venture capital, and nonprofit sectors. Peter Francis received his medical training in the U.K. and his PhD in Genetics from University College, London.

The author of more than 100 medical publications, Peter Francis has researched diseases of the retina and performed clinical trials of gene and stem cell therapy technologies. As a clinician, he specialized in the diseases retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration. Dr. Francis is the immediate past Director of the Translational Clinical Trials Center at the Casey Eye Institute of Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), where he was also an Associate Professor and Co-Director of the Oregon Retinal Degeneration Center.

Before coming to the United States in 2006, Peter Francis was a clinician and faculty member at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, where he served as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Senior Lecturer. Also a researcher, his work in genetics and ophthalmology was recognized in 2002 when he received the BUPA Foundation National Research Price and the Fould’s Trophy for Best Research at the Annual Congress of Ophthalmology.

In addition to his work at Pacific Ophthalmology Consulting, Dr. Francis serves as Chief Medical Officer at Retro-Sense Therapeutics, LLC. As CMO, Peter Francis MD assists in fundraising and administrative duties.
