My name is Peter Schiff and I'm a junior Sport Management major in Mark. H McCormack Deparment of Sport Management at the Isenberg School of Mananagement. Although im unsure exactly what and where I want to go after graduating, something I'm sure of is, I would love to work with one of my favorite sports team from new york or a company like ESPN. I have also thought of figuring out how to follow my passion of fantasy sports and player statistics, to create a new form of fantasy sports. My proposal would be to have a team that would consist of players from all the major sports (nba, mlb, nhl, nfl) and instead of having to enter four differnet leagues you would enter one league and have a dynasty type draft where you can select anybody from any sport and be able to compete agaisnt friends in the league. This is mainly just a thought but the thought was founded upon my interests in studying for fantasy sports and competing in many fantasy leagues. I realized I wanted to do something in sports ever since I was about 13 years old and I realized the sports industry seemed extremely interesting. The root of my interest sparked from video games actually, and I was extremely passionate about making trades to make my team better off as well as the idea of budgeting my money and figuring out how much money I would have to distribute to all the various different markets, segments of controlling the team. Because of the idea of budgeting and idea of how the management goes on behind the scenes made me want to experience it on a college level, so I took the initiative and contacted the soccer coach to help him out with budgeting for an upcoming road team, also helped him with adminsitrative concerns. This experience was extremely rewarding as it gave me a real life glimpse on how to budget with a hard cap. This gig gave me the ability to contact other college coaches to set up time and places for them to train prior to playing at umass. This helped me hone in and develop my skills, but this wasnt the only thing that helped with my skills as classes like (accounting, sociology of sport, intro to sport management, and marketing 301). The last thing that really made me passionate about sports was my participation in the two the clubs im a member in (ADS: association of diversity in sport, UMASSM) these clubs kept my interest in sports flowing. Overall so far at umass I have grown immensely.
