Cybersecurity Researcher and GNSO Vice Chair ICANN in Cincinnati, OH
Taiwo Peter Akinremi is a cybersecurity researcher, Internet governance leader, and technology strategist specializing in critical infrastructure cybersecurity, operational technology (OT) security, industrial control systems (ICS), cyber resilience, and Internet governance. His work bridges cybersecurity research, engineering, and global digital policy to strengthen the resilience, security, and governance of critical infrastructure.
Taiwo is pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Technology at the University of Cincinnati, where his research focuses on cybersecurity testbeds, cyber-physical systems, system dynamics, digital twins, and resilience modeling for critical infrastructure, particularly water and wastewater systems. His research has been published through leading scholarly venues, including IEEE, ACM, Taylor & Francis, and USENIX, contributing to advancements in cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection, and Internet governance.
He serves as Vice Chair of the ICANN Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council, providing leadership within ICANN's multistakeholder policy development process for the Domain Name System (DNS). In this role, he works with governments, industry, technical experts, civil society, and the broader Internet community to support policies that contribute to a secure, stable, and interoperable global Internet.
Taiwo has also served as one of 21 members of the ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom), participating in the evaluation and selection of members of the ICANN Board of Directors and other leadership positions. In addition, he serves as Vice Chair of the GNSO Standing Selection Committee (SSC), supporting the appointment of individuals to key leadership and policy roles within ICANN.
His contributions to global Internet governance include serving as Rapporteur General of the 7th United Nations African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF), where he facilitated the development of consensus outcomes among governments, the technical community, academia, civil society, and the private sector.
Beyond academia and policy, Taiwo is the Founder of Compsoftnet Technologies Ltd. (CSN), where he advises organizations on cybersecurity strategy, cyber risk management, privacy, governance, regulatory compliance, and critical infrastructure protection.
His research and professional service are driven by a commitment to advancing evidence-based cybersecurity practices, strengthening the resilience of critical infrastructure, and fostering collaboration between research, industry, and Internet governance communities.
