It took a long, long time to find out what I really wanted to do, but that's because I spent many years trapped in a life I was never cut out for, trying (and failing miserably) to be the person everyone else wanted me to be.

Fortunately I realised things had to change if I was ever going to be happy. It's not easy to turn your back on everything you know and start over, but I'd had enough of being miserable so I took the chance, and I can honestly say I've never looked back.

I was lucky enough to meet someone who has become 'the wind beneath my wings' and now Mary and I are happily married, living in a beautiful, peaceful part of Wales with our three dogs.

Mary has encouraged me to be me, and given me the confidence to try my hand at writing mystery novels. I now make a living from the DS Dave Slater Mystery Novel series.

It just goes to show it's never too late to start living your dreams!
