Phil Deeks is an anachronism: a man who measured the quality of language against its purpose and found them to be equal. It is not enough for him to make a point, he must make it in a way that reinforces his argument, the substance of his writing aided by its style to convince and entertain. An apostate to contemporary thought, he finds his inspiration in abandoned materials: the books and songs discarded by his peers. While they write quickly, he writes with care, shaping his words into a style distinct to him, each sentence pieced together with the patience of a luthier, the skill of his craft the key to its song. Through a process of revision, he creates poetry and prose that resonates with plain-spoken charm, each piece energised by his intent to enthral and amuse, challenge and seduce. He is a writer out of step with his time but more than worthy of yours.

Published work: Black Bough Poems, Country Squire Magazine.
