Phil Berg
Phil Berg began working for AutoWeek in 1981 as a racing photographer, and was quickly promoted to Associate Managing Editor in the Detroit and Los Angeles offices of the magazine. There he covered motorsports from Paris-Dakar and Safari rallies to Indy as well as reviewed new cars and tracked down industry news. He created feature story series such as The Road Warrior Arsenal, and wrote and narrated the long-running monthly series Readers Garage for the magazine and Autoweek TV from 2007 to 2013.
Phil began working full-time for Car and Driver in 1989, creating new titles such as the Car and Driver Yearbook, Ultimate Comparisons, as well as producing new car guides. Features he created as Senior Editor included breaking Guinness records in long-distance drives; racing in the first Paris-Moscow-Beijing performance rally; chasing tornados, accident investigators, gas balloonists, radar testers, and most recently he wrote the Ancient Grease series.
Phil created the lavishly illustrated Ultimate Garages four-book series in 2003 and has written for Maxim, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Parade, Road & Track, The New York TImes and specialty automotive consumer magazines, as well as customer and in-house magazines for OEMs, suppliers and the auto, petroleum, travel and insurance industry. Phil has also written hundreds of new car reviews, and is a graduate of seven high-performance driving schools. Other hardbound books he has authored include 100 Years of the Automobile and Corvette C6.
