Phil Connor

I have been involved in the print and media industries for more than 30 years. Starting as an apprentice in pre-press, I then moved into middle management as production manager of a large Sydney-based printing and publishing company that managed all printing processes from artwork to web and sheet fed printing plus bindery finishing.
After eight years in production I moved into the sales arena where I revelled in providing my clients with the most practical and cost effective solutions to their ever-demanding deadlines. I pride myself on my ability to think outside the box.
In the early eighties, I saw the advent of desktop publishing and was inspired to set up my own desktop and print management business. Some of my major clients included:
1. Weight Watchers: I managed all of their prepress work (photography, artwork and film) for their regular weight-loss plans plus their cookbooks, as well as other products. One of my innovations saw the initiation of colour coding in the promotional booklets and flyers for specific food groups in their 16 Week Food Plan.
2. Alcatel Australia: I managed all prepress and printing of a number of Alcatel’s products. At that time, Alcatel produced over 1 million wall telephones each year. After consultation and negotiations, I was able to reproduce their two-part user guide as a one-part solution, and reduce their cost per item from 21 cents to 4 cents.
After a number of years, I returned to the printing industry in a number of executive sales positions and have built many valuable personal and business relationships, mainly in the education sector.
Early in 2013 I was approached by Tim Been, the general manager of 20Twenty Communications to join their new and exciting printing and communications venture. Tim and his team have enormous energy and a genuine belief that they can provide an exceptional service to their clients through their wide-ranging skills and access to technology. Their aim is to produce the best results whether the need be digital or offset printing, merchandise and general promotions. Needless to say, I was more than happy to join up!
I love a challenge and truly believe that nothing is too much trouble.
