Dr Philip Skelding

Dr Philip Skelding is a New Orleans native. He grew up in the Broadmoor neighborhood and graduated from Newman School. Dr Skelding received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia University with a major in Chemistry. As a Rhodes Scholar he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University, as well as a Masters degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Dr Skelding completed his medical degree at Harvard Medical School. He was drawn back to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to help rebuild the medical system by working at the new Tulane Community Health Center. Dr Skelding completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Tulane University and then joined the faculty. As a member of the faculty Dr Skelding restructured and improved the outpatient training of residents, established a training path for residents interested in primary care, and also created a unique rotation to teach medical students about the health consequences of non-medical factors such as education, housing, nutrition and income.

Dr Skelding is a board-certified general internist, experienced in treating a wide variety of adult medical problems as well as primary care, health maintenance and disease prevention. He is a member of the American College of Physicians and has been an active member of the Society of General Internal Medicine where he served on the Health Policy Committee. Dr. Skelding lives Uptown with his wife and three children. He is currently accepting new patients.
