Philip Lader
Former US Ambassador to the Court of St. James's, Philip Lader is Chairman of WPP plc, the world's largest advertising/marketing company (including Ogilvy & Mather, J. Walter Thompson, Young & Rubicam, Grey Global, Burson-Marsteller and Hill & Knowlton, with 146,000 people in 107 countries). He is also a Senior Adviser to Morgan Stanley, partner in the Nelson Mullins Law Firm, a director of Marathon Oil, AES and RusAl Corporations, a trustee of the Smithsonian Museum of American History, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Formerly a member of President Clinton's Cabinet, he served as White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Deputy Director of the Office of Management & Budget, and Administrator of the US Small Business Administration. Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Sir James Goldsmith's US holding company, President of Sea Pines Company, and President of universities in Australia and South Carolina. He has been Vice Chairman of RAND Corporation, a director of Lloyd's of London, and a trustee of the British Museum, St. Paul's Cathedral (London), and the American Red Cross.
Ambassador Lader was educated at Duke, Michigan, Oxford and Harvard Universities, is an Honorary Fellow of Pembroke College, Oxford University, and London Business School, an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple (British Inns of Court), a member of Advisory Boards of Columbia University and Yale Divinity School, and has been awarded honorary doctorates by 14 universities.
