Philip Maes

After several years in journalism, surviving on chips & beer, Philip switched to advertising in the late '80's.

He warmed up at DMB&B, moved on to Grey and Moors/Bloomsbury where he started to win his first national awards: Creative Newspaper and Gold & Silver CCB, followed by more awards as Senior Copywriter for VVL/BBDO (CCB Awards, Effie Awards, ADCE & Cannes lions) and Creative Director for Saatchi & Saatchi Brussels.

After an overdose of meeting rooms, Philip started his own business specializing in radio. He followed radio courses in Los Angeles and London and set up The Radio Workshops to train people how to make better radio. In 2009 he published “Can somebody turn up the radio, please?” a radio manual on how to get the most out of radio advertising. The book has been published in Belgium, Holland, Croatia and the Ukraine. He did radio workshops in Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Hungary, Rumania, Sweden, Germany and Morocco. And he was radio jury member at CCB Awards, D&AD London and Cannes Radio Lions.

Philip is Creative Partner of Ph.M. Radio, Godfather of the freelance collective TheMaffia.com, executive member of the Creative Club of Belgium and author of radio plays for children.
