Phillip Schlesinger

Hi, I’m Phillip Schlesinger, I am going into my sophomore year at Bard High School Early College Queens (link) down in Long Island City. What I do in my free time, besides not dying, in Math, Tech, Video Games, Sciences, Engineering, Coding, Programming, Hacking (for good). I also take interest in Classical Latin and Mythology. In my school, I fence after school weekly and sing acapella for an hour and a half. I love to code and program, so I try to learn all that I can from free programs like Khan Academy. My best friend and I have marathons with hiking, Dungeons and Dragons, and fooling around with engines like Eclipse. Four months of my calendar are dedicated to surfing at the beach with friends and family. A few of my weekends during the school year are spent camping and are usually a tight squeeze for me, trying to balance out camping and my homework, but I always manage with time to spare. I am hard-working at jobs and always try to motivate my teammates to be the best they can be and get our projects to the greatest level of design, function, performance and efficiency.

I became interested in mathematics early on, in second grade, when I joined the Accelerated Math Program in my school. Fascinated by how much there was to learn and how it applies to real life, even in the second grade, using basic operations to solve real-life problems, like helping my mom save on groceries to how far I have to walk and how to get to school the fastest way possible. My school continued the program until the fifth grade, when they replaced it with a Problem of the Week program that met twice a week. With my classmates, we worked on high school math problems, riddles, and puzzles and created formulas and algorithms to solve them. The program was challenging and interesting, but still was not the same as the regular program that met every day. Looking for a program that would challenge me, I signed up for the OLSAT (link) and I ended up going to the school where I took the exam. Robotics in the school was a regular class, just like everything else and it helped build my team-building, problem-solving, presenting in front of large groups, prototyping as well as testing potential products.

If you would love to add me to your team, please email me at [email protected].

Thank you.
