Education Leadership in San Francisco, California

I build partnerships by creating a shared vision, engaging in shared values, and clearly communicating with all participants in a community to move us toward a common goal.

This approach has been developed over time, drawing on my experience as a working class youth, through political activism in college, and as a teacher, dean, vice-principal, and principal in school systems over the last 20 years.

Our collective actions are greater than our individual acts, and as a leader, I strive to guide a community toward identifying and implementing the policies, practices, and procedures that meet our goals and move us toward justice.

“There’s no such thing as neutral education. Education either functions as an instrument to bring about conformity or freedom.” - Paulo Freire

I believe it is a political act of systematic resistance to provide the best possible education with the highest expectations through a critical lens in order to support the development of leaders of a more just society.

My educational leadership is based in restorative practices that pair high expectations with high care and support for the community which I am serving.

"The underlying premise of Restorative Practices rests with the belief that people will make positive changes when those in positions of authority do things with them rather than to them or for them." - Wachtel & Costello (2009), The Restorative Practices Handbook, International Institute for Restorative Practices
