Dr. Phillip Kapraun is a large animal veterinarian who has earned both a James Laird Memorial Award for Excellence from the Wisconsin Harness Horseman's Association and an Outstanding Service Award from Blackhawk College. He worked for more than six years with the Harvard Veterinary Clinic in Harvard, Illinois. Joining this clinic in 1977 as an employee veterinarian, he supported a diverse practice that treated both pets, such as dogs and cats, and farm animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats.

Dr. Phillip Kapraun also worked with exotic animals that ranged from camels and llamas to ostriches and rheas. The Harvard Veterinary Clinic rapidly promoted Dr. Kapraun to full partner and placed him in charge of his own Standardbred racehorse practice. Dr. Phillip Kapraun parted ways with the Harvard Veterinary Clinic in 1983 and subsequently established his own Harvard-based equine practice. This practice employs a range of state-of-the-art modalities to diagnose and treat various forms of lameness in racehorses.
