Phoebe Masterson-Houle
Student in Sudbury, ON, Canada
I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. I am the youngest of two sisters by eleven years. My mum stayed at home with us, while my dad worked as a mine superintendent. As a child, I participated in dance and gymnastics during the school year and played soccer in the summer. As I got older I stuck to dancing and joined a competitive team at Spotlight Dance Company.
I graduated high school in 2016, then made my way to Laurentian University. I am in my fourth-year at Laurentian in the Concurrent Education program with a major of Psychology. While in university I have had various jobs, but the one I have been at the longest and I enjoyed the most is a daycare run by Our Children, Our Future, since 2018. While working at the daycare as Support Staff, it has allowed me to gain experience working with many different age groups. This is valuable work experience as I am in the primary/junior stream.
Ever since I was little, I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. I had a lot of teachers that showed me unconditional support, which has helped me get to where I am today and I would like to be that positive influence in another child’s life.
My experience of being a student in the concurrent education program, my various placements, jobs and volunteering with children has helped me gain knowledge and acquire my philosophy of education that I will use as a teacher and a life-long learner.
