If you're designing something that requires an image cutout of some sort, the most common method is to use Photoshop clipping paths. A clipping path is a closed vector path (shape) used to cut out an image using an image editing software. Anything inside the path will be included after the clipping path is applied; anything outside the path will be removed from the output.
