Phwe Tham
Amherst, Massachusetts, United States
My name is Phwe Tham but I go by Main which is my middle name. I am a Finance major at UMass Amherst. My passion is in Finance and helping other. Most of the work I have done in my college career has to do with helping others. I have been apart of Student Bridges for four years. They are a student run organization that works with students from Holyoke and Springfield Mass. We work primarily with underrepresented youth. We provide tutoring/mentoring in schools in both cities and our goal is to create college positive environment so these students will want to college as well.
My passion for finance comes from working on a stock project when I was in 8th grade where we picked stocks and tracked how it changed over a series of months. This sparked my interest in financial markets and how the economy works. I am a Teacher's Assistant for two upper level finance classes. After taking an Alternative Investment class, I have a particular interest in Hedge Funds and Private Equity.
Currently, I am not too sure about my future plans. I am currently studying for the GMAT, I want to continue my education in Finance and get my Masters. I also want to earn my CFA. In terms of a long term goal, I want to eventually open up a non-profit bank/credit union that focuses on getting underrepresented students to college. This will give me the opportunity to combine my two passions.
