Piper Abbate
As an Event Coordinator for Laguna Beach, California, vintage merchandise store TrashPretty, Piper Abbate has personally dealt with numerous musicians and artists. In this capacity, Ms. Abbate scheduled many live performances from bands including Tomorrows Tulips, Cosmonauts, and My Pet Saddle. As the organizer of the TrashPretty Underground Show, Piper Abbate coordinated a musical performance by local independent hip-hop artist PWEST. Through her organization of many successful and well-received shows, she has taken part in TrashPretty’s status in Orange County as an important underground music venue.
In addition to her role as an Event Coordinator, Piper Abbate also contributes her photography talent to TrashPretty, exhibiting in the shop’s art walks as well as providing press exposure through publication in a number of magazines. Blisss Magazine published Ms. Abbate’s photographs of the Costa Mesa, California, rock band TRMRS, and OC Weekly presented her photographic event coverage of TrashPretty’s 2009 Fashion Show.
Invested in many aspects of the creative, underground culture in Southern California, Piper Abbate also acts as a Buyer for TrashPretty. The shop primarily sells unique, vintage clothing and accessories, but also carries hard-to-find cassette tapes, records, and compact discs, as well as artwork and household items.
Carrying her creative impulse into her education at City College of San Francisco, Piper Abbate was recently named a finalist in the school’s photographic competition for the Barbara Stewart Memorial Photography Scholarship, intended to assist photography students in the development of their technical and compositional skills.
