I'm a professional writer (ie. trying to earn my living from writing.) I have a passion for stories, so I read a huge amount too. (Find me on goodreads. :)) I am really interested in the world around me, and my work reflects this. I have written many stories and poems, including horror, SF, science based, and historical stories. I wrote four ebooks for a local publisher (Bowbridge Publishing), and have also done occasional journalism (for the Western Daily Press, the Gloucestershire Echo, Writers' Forum and Evergreen magazine). Some stories and poems are still available in anthologies, and some are, of course :) still being written and published. Long term I'm working on children's books and scripts - with science advisor, Mark Lorch - for a project with Hull University. Double Take Theatre took my play, Investigation: Haunted House round schools, and Valley Press, in Scarborough, is bringing out the accompanying novel (same title). I also, in 2005, started my own publishing company (Fractal Publishing) to publish work that was being overlooked by mainstream publishers. We first did my grandmother, Effie M. Roberts' poetry and then did guides for migrant workers (local and national, in English and Polish). We have also published a round the world cookbook by Margo Smith, and a humorous book by Gordon Thorburn and Paul Davies, 'Some Missing Persons'. Effie M Roberts's books are now being used in education and have found a large market.I regularly do readings from them, and also from my own work. Now, facing a crisis in funding for theatre, and the arts generally, I am looking for a new post - something that will use both my creativity and my managerial experience, and will allow me to go on working with stories and poetry. I want my life to be rich and full, as I feel this leads to the best kind of writing, and the best use of skills.
