Irlen Syndrome, otherwise known as Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome, is a disorder of the way the brain interprets light signals. It can manifest as light sensitivity, but it is more than that. When a person has Irlen Syndrome, their brain becomes overactive when exposed to certain wavelengths of light.
Irlen Syndrom is often misdiagnosed as ADHD, sometimes as a reading disorder and results in poor reading comprehension. Headaches, light sensitivity, under achieving (the wide range of symptoms here including Autism) can sometimes be traced to Irlen Syndrome. The good news is there are corrections for this sensitivity!
