Pat Maimone

Glendale, CA

Church musician, concert organist, piano accompanist, conductor as well as Mom and Grandma. Born & raised in northern New Jersey, I graduated from Douglass College (Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ) with a B. A. in Music. Four years later I received my Master's [M. M. in Organ Performance] from Westminster Choir College ( Rider University) in Princeton.

My longest tenure was as Organist/Director of Musical Activities at West Point's Post Chapel, the USMA in upstate NY, 50 miles north of Manhattan. I enjoyed working with the members of the faculty and staff & their families as Adult, Junior, Youth & Handbell Choir Director.

Moved to SoCal in March 2009 to be near my granddaughter & her parents. I had made several trips to the Los Angeles & San Diego areas previously to visit relatives (sister, aunts, uncles, cousins) and attend Regional & National Conventions of the American Guild of Organists.

Survived breast cancer with surgery, chemo & radiation; am now being treated with concurrent radiation/chemotherapy to shrink a small cell cancerous tumor in my left lung, which had collapsed.

I am grateful that the lung stayed open during March, which included a celebration of J. S. Bach's 328th birthday as well as Holy Week & Easter. I rely on prayers from friends and relatives as well as humor to carry me through some difficult times.

My precocious granddaughter will turn 5 in August. She is the joy of my life; her smile lights up the room.. She has many interests - ballet & tap, gymnastics, drawing, & music class. Her gift to me on Mother's Day was priceless - a plaque engraved with I Love Grandma + a color photo of her. Her thick dark hair is flying and she is alert and very curious. She also gave me two other photos - one showed her with colorful clay, and the other was a real closeup of her beautiful brown eyes.

My red-headed son works for NASA at JPL; he wrote the computer software for the Mars Rovers - Spirit, Opportunity + Curiosity. He enjoys singing tenor in vocal groups. When he had time, he played trumpet in the JPL/Caltech Jazz Band. His wife Alice, a native of Hong Kong, is a wonderful cook and very intelligent young woman. Her English is miles ahead of my Chinese. She enjoys walking in Descanso Gardens; my dwelling is one of a fourplex in the Somerset section of Glendale.
