Peter Makai, ml.

Bratislava, Slovakia

I was born in 1982 on a hot summer day in the city of Nové Zámky in southwestern Slovakia.

I attended the Secondary Electrotechnical school in Nové Zámky between 1996 and 2000. After finishing the school I served in a civilian service, instead of serving in the army.

After that I took my first job. I was a porter in a local company. It really was a boring job, so I decided to look further. This was the time, when I began to understand HTML, PHP and CSS and tried to code my first site. It was a really simple image gallery where I published photos of parties I attended during weekends.

Then I changed jobs within the company, and I became a warehouseman. This was far more interesting. During this period I got another part-time job as a graphic designer of a small magazine. So I learned a bit of DTP, I worked with Photoshop and QuarkXpress.

Then I moved to Bratislava, and got a new, even better job. I started working for a company CMS, which was a mobile phone service center. I first started as a technician, repairing Samsung mobile phones. Later promoted to team leader, where I was responsible for leading a team of 4 people.

Samsung Electronics was my next employer. I worked at the Slovak sales office as a technical product specialist for mobile phones. My main responsibilities were: mobile phones field testing, operators field testing coordination, bug reporting, MMI (man-machine interface) translations, user guide corrections. This was my first interesting role in a big international company. The job required good time and project management skills in order to meet the deadlines and successfull take-to market.

Then I got the chance to become a product specialist at Telefonica Slovakia. I've seen this opportunity as a challenge and a great possibility to learn. My key responsibilities were portfolio management and vendor management. Portfolio management included the end-to-end lifecycle management of mobile devices. I was responsible for selecting the right handsets to fit the needs of our customers, product marketing, pricing, high-level technical support. The vendor management part included negotiations with mobile device vendors regarding portfolio selection and marketing campaigns. I also participated in the O2 Guru project, which the company launched in 2011.

In February 2013 I left Telefonica, looking for new challenges.
