PONY
Family Roots
Matthew Stanton and Andrew Stanton are second cousins. When Andy was 5, his mother moved to Putney, and Matthew didn’t see the little mug for some years.
School Days
Paul Davey met Matthew at Henry Crapton School when they were 11. Paul recalls:
"He (Matthew) was the sort of guy I knew was going places. He had that look and the aura of a god. I just had to be friends with him."
In their second year, Matthew and Paul met john. Later, Andy and Matt reunited for a pint, and Andy brought along a scruffy friend—this was the first time Matthew met Jimmy "Turkey Boy" Stack.
Early Jams
Matt, Paul, and John jammed and recorded several times in the late 1980s with Juilan Dywer, under the names Total, US, and Impact.
Andy & Matt
After reuniting, Andy and Matt began jamming and recording again. They released two LPs, Attack and The Still Born Sessions, under the name Andy and Matt.
The band started with covers of their favorite artists but soon found them too hard—Andy struggled with the vocals, Paul with guitar, and Jimmy’s drumming was always the same tempo. After a few weeks, things tightened up, the songs got simpler, and friends began to watch.
Drummer Boy
One of those friends was John, who was now known as James Mc.Unit , He’d played in bands before—most recently the little-known “smelly chel and backstreet bummers” —and was clearly a stronger drummer than Pony’s Jimmy.
After watching Jim’s catastrophic drumming, James asked if he could sit in. At the next session, Jim was out. James played for a few weeks, But James girlfriend thought all James's friends where scum and told him “its me or the band”
James was replaced by the trusty SR-16 drum machine.
The Split
Andy Meets a girl who he calls “princess" and blows his mates out for her and her kid, Jimmy returns as the singer and James as the drummer.
A few months later, Pony split.
The Return
But now they’re back: MATT, PAUL, ANDY, and ADAM.
