Porcha Kent

Teacher in Alberquerque, NM

Hi, I’m Mrs. Porcha Kent (née Peterson), and I’m proud to serve as both a English Literary Arts and Speech teacher here in Albuquerque. I was born and raised in Indiana. I moved to New Mexico to earn my degree in Communication Disorders from NMSU, and I’ve dedicated my career to helping students grow in confidence and communication ever since.

Every student learns differently, and I believe in using patience, creativity, and kindness to meet each child’s unique needs. Whether we’re focusing on critical reading and writing development, language skills, social development, or academic goals, my classroom is a supportive space where students are encouraged to be themselves and reach their potential.

During the school year, I also host a weekly student book club for grades 4 through 8. The club is a fun and welcoming space where students come together to read, discuss, and connect with stories that spark imagination, empathy, and thoughtful conversation.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy exploring the Southwest, trying out new recipes, and spending time with my family and my rescue dog, Luna.
