Pornography
Pornography (often abbreviated porn) is the portrayal of sexual material for that exclusive intent behind sexual arousal. Pornography may be presented in a number of media, including books, magazines, postcards, photographs, sculpture, drawing, painting, animation, sound recording, telephone calls, writing, film, video, and video games. The term pertains to the depiction of the act as opposed to the act itself, therefore will not include live exhibitions like sex shows and striptease. The primary subjects of present-day pornographic depictions are pornographic models, who pose for still photographs, and pornographic actors or porn stars, who perform in pornographic films. If dramatic skills are not involved, a performer in a porn film can be called a model.
Various groups within society consider depictions of the sexual nature immoral, addictive, and noxious, labeling them pornographic, and wanting to keep these things suppressed under obscenity as well as other laws, with varying levels of success. Such works also have often undergone censorship along with other legal restraints to publication, display, or possession, leading most of the time with their loss. Such grounds, and even the phrase pornography, have differed in several historical, cultural, and national contexts.
