Kati Overmier

New York

I grew up in the wide open spaces of a small town in Northern Ohio. I spent my days playing in my large back yard, running in the cornfields, reading books in my bedroom, and singing every place I could.

Then I went to college. I left my town, my house, my friends, and my family. I went almost as far as the East coast could allow without living in the ocean. I was suddenly 600+ miles from anything I had ever found familiar.

For the first time, I was completely on my own. I couldn't depend on lifelong friendships or parents for support. It was difficult, terrifying, and one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. Thrust into an enknown situation, I either had to give up, or succeed. I chose to succeed.

Finally, I was able to find out who I was and just what I was made of. I realized I am one tough girl with an iron determination to make my own way in the world. I built up self-confidence, self-respect, and efficacy. Most of all, I learned that I could love myself, for exaclty who I am, and never worry about what others might think.

I am positively Kati.
