Rockwall Sheriff's Posse
Rockwall, TX
Organized in 1991, the Posse was the brainchild of Roy Hance, a longtime Rockwall resident who loved to ride horses but also wanted to find a way to serve the community. Hance, who had been riding since he was a young boy, was inspired by other mounted units throughout the area and tried for seven years to start a group in Rockwall. Finally, with the support of then-Sheriff Jacques Kiere, the Posse was born.
"We're not just a riding club," explains Hance, who is adamant that people understand the service aspect of the Posse's job - a job that includes rounding up stray animals, conducting searches, patrolling high traffic areas and providing crowd cotrol. " We do work for the county and the city. We're a working organization."
