Rod Harrod
Born in Wales where I started my career as a journalist on the Penarth Times and then Merthyr Express with BBC doyen John Humphreys. Moved to Fleet Street to join music paper, Disc & Music Echo while hosting the most successful UK Discotheque of '60s. Eric Clapton was seen by Atlantic boss playing in backing band; I gave Jimi Hendrix his first UK gig from which terms of his record deal were inked on a club napkin...much more. Moved into management of acts like the Foundations, Clyde McPhatter and later Paper Lace. Author of food book and currently writing memoirs. Moved to South Africa in 1994 and opened most successful music industry training for disadvantaged youth in Cape Town. Returned to UK after death of his wife and currently negotiating to open similar institution in his native Cardiff.
