I’m Parinita, a digital marketer and food content creator documenting traditional South Indian recipes from the coastal city of Mangalore, India.
After completing a degree in Mass Media, I worked as a freelance photographer before moving into full-time roles as a writer and in-house photographer. My career later took me to London, UK, where I joined DPReview in 2008. Living away from home inspired me to start blogging my family’s treasured recipes.
When Amazon.com acquired DPReview, I relocated to the company’s headquarters in Seattle in 2010. Seattle was an inspiring city, filled with colourful people, welcoming neighbourhoods, and a rich culinary scene. After a few years abroad, I returned to Mumbai before beginning the next chapter of life in Edmonton, Canada with my husband.
In 2022, I designed and launched my own website, Pulimunchi Kitchen. The name comes from a food delivery pop-up I ran in Mumbai, serving authentic Mangalorean dishes to the city. The love and warmth I received for the taste of home inspired me to create a space to preserve and share the recipes passed down by my grandmother and mother. Through the website, I aim to capture not just the flavours of Mangalorean cuisine but also the nostalgia and memories that come with it.
Each city I have lived in and every chapter of my life has shaped my perspective and adaptability. Through all the changes, one constant remains: a deep passion for Mangalorean food, its preservation, and the stories it carries. My connection to my roots feels strongest whenever I am outside India. It is the fondness and longing for sitting on a rainy day, surrounded by swaying coconut trees, on a balmy Mangalorean evening that deepens my love for my hometown.
