Phillip Emmanuel [Smith] is an Award-Winning Nightside Multimedia Photojournalist for WTLV/WJXX in Jacksonville, Florida. Phillip joined First Coast News in June 2017.

As a Photojournalist, Phillip has covered several groundbreaking stories including the Ahmaud Arbery Shooting in Brunswick, Georgia, Uprising Protests in Jacksonville, FL, The Stoneman Douglas High (Parkland) Shooting, Hurricane Irma Coverage, the Jacksonville Landing Shooting, and many other impactful stories dedicated to the communities he serves as a Journalist.

Prior to moving to the Sunshine station, Phillip started his journalism career as a News Assistant for Spectrum News 14, formerly Time Warner Cable News, in Charlotte, NC from December 2014 until May 2017. While in the Queen City, Phillip worked as an overnight Photographer while covering major events such as the Keith Lamont Scott shooting in September 2016. He also worked as a fill-in Assignment Editor and Production Assistant.

Phillip graduated from the University of West Georgia, in Carrollton, Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications: Convergence Journalism and minor in American Studies.

During his years at West Georgia, Phillip was heavily involved with the university's student based television station, UTV13; there, he juggled various positions in the newsroom as a Multimedia Journalist, Executive Producer, Assistant News Director, and Volunteer Coordinator, in which Phillip mentored inexperienced students who wished to learn the logistics of broadcasting.

Phillip received various awards for his hard work in Broadcast Journalism by receiving the Mass Communications Department's Professional Development Award in 2013 and 2014. He also served as Vice President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Communications Coordinator of the National Broadcasting Society (West Georgia chapter).

Most recently, Phillip was recognized for his contribution to the University of West Georgia as the recipient for the 2019 Thriving Under 30 Award.

Phillip is a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated and the National Association of Black Journalists.
