Neil Quillen

New York City, New York

Neil Quillen is a versatile young composer with a unique stylistic approach often featuring a fantasy-like curiosity and modalities reminiscent of world folk traditions. He is a recent graduate of Luther College, and currently enrolled in the Scoring for Film and Multimedia masters program at New York University Steinhardt.

Neil has had the privilege of studying under composers Brooke Joyce, Ira Newborn, Michael Patterson, and Rich Shemaria, and has worked with performers such as David Weiss and the Brentano String Quartet.

His growing number of film and game projects include assistant orchestration for Nickelodeon’s Legend of Korra series, and music and sound effects for an augmented reality board game called The Fisherman’s Dilemma. Other notable projects include his score to the Live Source Collective’s film adaptation of “Bohemian Lights”, directed by Tyler Mercer, and his upcoming score to the USC student game project King Basil’s Quest.

At Luther, Neil was the recipient of a Luther College Collaborative Research Grant for the summer of 2012, with which he studied film music. His commissions include a piece for the Luther College Trumpet Choir and a piece for the student-lead Luther choir Jubilus. Neil also wrote for and conducted the Luther Philharmonia numerous times. He continues to conduct his own music and the music of his colleagues at NYU.
