Hi, my name is Mark Quinlan, recently of Sheridan College’s Journalism: New Media post-grad program. Since my graduation, I’ve been employed by The Source in a sales position.

However, I am focused and committed to developing a career in media and especially journalism. I have a great deal of passion for the field and am eager to accomplish as much as I can and to make as big an impact as possible.

My focus is on current events and politics, but I’m adaptable and can adjust to any format or topic as required.

Recently I was interning with the CBC’s online features section as a writer. I was able to report on a range of original and in-depth stories that managed to hit the daily top 5 in page views on a regular basis. I covered many hot-button issues, including the Vatican scandals, Everest deaths, and the DNSChanger virus.

At Sheridan College, I acted as anchor for our weekly TV news show, Live @ Five, where I also contributed stories and assisted in video editing duties for air. I am also proud to have volunteered to perform as lead editor and contributor to an issue of Sheridan’s Pundit Magazine, a glossy long-article publication.

Prior to Sheridan, I also contributed to a website, Playeraffinity.com, authoring reviews and tech articles several times a week for just over a year and a half.

I’ve since sharpened my knowledge of the more technical aspects of digital news reporting, including developing my skills in photography, videography, proper lighting and editing (including the use of tools such as FCP, Audacity, Avid).

While contributing to the above publications, I had to generate and propose story ideas, visual content and handled CMS posting personally; I also took the initiative to do necessary photography for the story if it was local.

If considered, I am confident and excited to bring my skills and professionalism to the team. Thank you for looking at my resume and for your time.
