I came to the ceramic arts during a mid-life quandary and feel so very grateful to have found something that ignites my imagination and works as a translator of my observant nature.
Making pieces on the potter’s wheel is one of my favorite things to do and I get antsy when I am away from it for too long. The beauty of the unglazed clay, its texture and the depth of its natural color has captured my imagination and I make a point of leaving a portion of each piece unglazed as a reminder of the clay’s origins. The things I choose to make come from a practical and functional approach. I rarely make things exactly alike because everyone has a different preference. Some people like tall and slender mugs. Others like rounder and shorter pieces. Some people hold their handles with two fingers, while others prefer all five. So, when you choose a mug with the perfect fit, you are creating a moment in your hands that speaks only to you. In bringing a mug to your lips to drink, you are creating an intimate moment with a piece of art.
Thank you for your interest in my work. I am so glad you found something in it that resonates with you. It is my hope that it will incorporate itself into your daily ritual and that it continues to bring you joy for many years to come!
